Wow is this place obnoxiously annoying to get a table at. My husband and I have been wanting to come here for a while now, but seeing as there's ALWAYS a wait (even on a random Monday or Tuesday night for dinner), we just had never made the effort. Finally, we built up the ambition to check this place out (we opted for a Monday to hopefully reduce our wait time, if only a bit). One good tip is that while they do not take reservations, you can call to put your name in and they will hold your reservation for up to an hour. After checking in, you may still need to wait, however - just a head's up. We ended up ditching our name on the list, as two spots at the bar opened up while we were waiting for our table. We don't mind eating at the bar; plus, the tables inside are somewhat close together, so we felt like we still got the same amount of privacy (plus - no waiting for your drinks ;)). As for the FOOD: Nummy, nummy, nummy. We didn't know where to start in terms of ordering...there was too much we wanted, so it was hard to strike things from the list. We ended up promising ourselves that we'd just have to be back ;) Here's what we ordered: 1) Margherita pizza - yum; loved the sauce and burrata (please, oh please, upgrade to the burrata - we always do anywhere if there's the option). Not my favorite pizza in SF (I prefer Pizzeria Delfina or Delarosa for this style of pizza) - but still very good. 3.5 - 4 stars 2) Herb Onion Bread with olive oil (4 stars) - very delicious bread. We even took our extra home. 3) Winter greens with persimmon & pomegranate (3.5 stars) - We ordered this item so EVERYTHING wasn't heavy and carb loaded :)) Least favorite thing we had - but in comparison to other salads we've had out, I'd say this was pretty good. 4) Dungeness crab arancini with calabrese aioli (4.5 stars) - Favorite item of the night. LOVED these little seafood croquettas. Will definitely order again. Overall - Great experience. Will definitely be back. Just wish the wait wasn't so long and they took reservations!

The first time I tried Beretta I wasn't a fan. But I'm determined to give this place another try. We came with another friend and the overall experience was good. The host was a bit rude to my bf and ignored him for a good minute when he walked up to her. And we were seated outside so our service was a bit slow (I'm willing to overlook both of these problems since the service wasn't terrible). We ordered: Walnut bread & burrata Lamb chops Gnocchi Cioppino: Sooo good Squid ink risotto margherita pizza & burrata Everything was delicious and we were very happy. Will definitely come back again. I tried the olive oil & salt gelato and couldn't handle it, props for them for trying something different tho.

The only thing better than their food was their amazing and attentive service. I brought my dog who just had a rough day at the vet and couldnt be left alone for a few hours for monitoring. They gladly set us up at a corner table outside and even brought a water bowl! After my beloved pup drank it, they even came back to refill! The waiter's recommendations were spot on and as mentioned the food was absurdly good. Fried Sweet Potatoes, meatballs, walnut bread, and brussel sprouts were all amazing. My favorite was the Chorizo pizza though. I highly recommend! Similar pizza places like Delfina and Delarosa dont come close to the total package Beretta brings to the table.

So I was told about this restaurant from one of the staff members at the B&B I was staying at. I decided to go here as sort of my last great meal of the trip. I had a rude experience with a #49 MUNI at 8:01 PM on 16th and Mission Street. I wish I had gotten the license of that driver (I have some choice expletives but will refrain from typing them...if they're even allowed...*LOL*) who chose not to open the very back bus door for me and then when I realized he wasn't going to open it, ran to the middle section where a couple passengers finished getting in, only to have that door slam on me and the ummm, ##@_!@!$*!, take off. Yeah....I wasn't gonna let that experience ruin an otherwise great trip. Moving on...sorta. So that pissy mood was what I reluctantly carried even though I was trying to do a Mariah 2005 and shake that experience off. The place was mad packed and I was content with sitting in a corner bar stool by the entrance. However one of the bar guys (his name I didn't get) wasn't having it and told me there was an open bar seat nearer to them that I'd probably be more comfortable at. Bad mood cloud lifting just a little bit as I moved. Then the handsome drink mixologist Jeremy completely took me out of that funk by actually trying to converse with me. #!*(*!$##! driver, who? The restaurant was loud and dark so I struggled to speak with the volume (since everyone else was shouting) but it was nice to get some attention. I told him it was my last night in the bay city and he even gave me an on the house drink. How cool was that? So I wound up ordering a drink called the Kentucky Mule and I continued to be mesmerized by Jeremy's mixing skills. Okay...bad mood officially lifted. The other bar guy (so sorry I forgot his name...he was really nice too)...hell even the lady at the bar smiled at me...they were all working it...*LOL*...but back to the other bar guy..he took my entree order, which was the very tasty squid ink with calamari risotto. I wondered what made the order green and Jeremy took the time to actually explain it though honestly I forgot what he said, my just catching on the green was suppose to represent the "squid ink" part of the dish name. So I kept it simple and didn't order an appetizer or dessert. But I definitely thank the bar staff at Beretta for making my last meal in the bay area a nice one and ending my trip on a good note. Darn...I had to take the bus back...but thankfully that went smoothly (like most of my bus/train trips throughout my visit). #49 MUNI at 8:01 PM Oct. 19 2014 on 16th and Mission Street driver, I wrote a complaint (which I'm sure won't get resolved) but I'll leave karma to get ya SUCKA. LOL

TRIPLE UPDATE. I really enjoy this place, atmosphere and food. Regardless of time of day, random weekday evening, weekday daytime, or Friday late evening -- always great time to eat here. Surprisingly at 6pm Friday there were available tables, became prime time between 7:30-10 and the space starts to filters out. Great company, great food, good service, hip music, and nasty bathrooms (piss everywhere). The order.... iL Molino de Grace - must have a Sangiovese. One glass is comfortable, two is letting yourself unwind. Had a good chill buzz and made me a little sleepier than I already was. HIGHLY RECOMMEND Bruschette of Cresenza & broccoli Rabe - this was better than a typical Bruschette. Came with two pieces, toasted slice of bread with cheese and Rabe. I really enjoyed this dish, the broccoli Rabe has a very nice crunch and softness giving the dish a "green" taste. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. BEEF CARPACCIO with arugula, Parmesan, and capers - I love each ingredient on it's own and also all together, but the capers and arugula distracts your palette away from the beef carpaccio. SQUID INK RISOTTO with calamari - my favorite dish here. It's hard to describe the taste but to say trust my judgements because it is fantastically prepared. They garnish the dish with a pinch of green herbs on top which is a combination of cilantro, lime, anchovies, and possible avoo. I had asked for extra of it because it makes the dish ten times better. HIGHLY RECOMMEND LASAGNA ALLA BOLOGNESE - serving was smaller than I had expected for $17 but it is filling and it is very good. I rarely order anything lasagna but was very glad it was ordered to share. Tasty and hearty, as pasta should be. HIGHLY RECOMMEND PANNA GELATO with evoo and sea salt - creamy, buttery, and salty. Three great tastes in one. If you had panna cotto, you can imaging having it in gelato form. It was also like eating cold silky butter. Foodgasm and orgasmic on every spoonful. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Great place to sample multiple dishes and share with another. We left satisfied with happy tummies. Will I be back? You don't have to ask me twice.

I don't normally write reviews but when I do it's because they have good drinks and spicy meatballs. Nuff said.

UMM EFF YA! I'm very sad that I can't get this type of pizza in LA, but it gives me more of a reason to go back to SF. Enjoyed the chorizo pizza we ordered. The cilantro really added a freshness to the intense flavor of the chorizo. We also ordered the osso buco risotto and the roasted beets. I've had better risotto but the osso buco was bold in flavor. Do they delivery to LA? hahah

I don't like the smug, judgmental face of that blonde hostess, or the way she stares at people on dates while setting places at the communal table. Awesome food, though. I'll be back.

I've been to Beretta twice, once for brunch and once for dinner. Brunch I am not very faint of heart, but for San Francisco brunch, I make an exception. The thought of whiling away a nice weekend waiting with a rumbling stomach makes me at least slightly anxious. Imagine my surprise when we walked by Beretta at noon on a Saturday and there was no wait! We started out munching on the walnut bread with burrata and truffle honey, and it was definitely the highlight of the meal. My pork shoulder panini didn't disappoint either! The food was spot on, the service was quick and pleasant, and the price was right. I would recommend! Dinner This must be when the wait time comes out to play. We went to Beretta pretty late on a rainy weeknight, and were told our table would be ready in 45 minutes. They take your phone number though, so you're not tied to the immediate street corner (much appreciated). Our table was prepared in only 20 minutes, and the food was delicious (dat burrata walnut bread doe). We had a round of cocktails, which were pleasant but somewhat forgettable. I just recall that mine was very strong (but I don't mean "forgettable" in the blackout sense...) and my boyfriend seemed to enjoy his. Solid dinner spot.

I LOVE this place! I organized a Girl's Night Out here and we had a wonderful time. We had a party of 20 so I made reservations for their private room downstairs, The response times to my emails were prompt and contained clear concise instructions and details about the room. I also appreciated their patience when they answered my questions and when I needed to adjust the reservation. Now about the restaurant it self... The Staff: The hostess was very pleasant took us downstairs right when our reservation time came and adjusted seating when another group decided they were going to camp out at our table for awhile(gotta love people who do that...). She also took pictures of us outside the restaurant when were leaving. The waitresses were so much fun! After the other parties left they allowed us to play our own music over the speakers and even busted a few moves when we started dancing to a couple of our favorite songs! Throughout the meal they asked me questions to make sure everything was going alright and they continually checked on us. At the end of the night they volunteered to take pics for us and they had to stand on the seats to fit us all in but they worked as a team and got it done. The entire staff definitely contributed to how successful the night was. The FOOD: EVERYTHING. WAS. DELICIOUS. We had the Fritto Misto(fried calamari, shrimp, fennel, and green beans with a spicy marinara sauce), Meatballs in Spicy Tomato Sauce, and Marinated Castelvetrano Olives for antipasti. Every one of those items were delicious and they brought us so much that we were full before the main course came out. Kale and Romaine Cesear salad came in between our two courses and several people in the group said it was one of the best salads they've ever had. For our main course we had Margherita Burrata and Spicy Italian Sausage pizzas. The crust was thin and crispy and the toppings were piping hot and tasted really fresh. Saffron and Veal risotto came out last and it was absolutely delicious. Value:The cost per person for the menu I chose was $35 and everyone was stuffed by the time we were ready to go. There was beyond enough food for us all and we even had some left over. No one was upset about how much we paid. I am definitely going to return and bring friends! Its great for girl's night out, date night, or even late night cravings for awesome italian!

Made reservations at 630 and was seated immediately. The restaurant is two stories and we were brought downstairs and immediately I felt as if I was in a cellar, which isn't a bad thing. The restaurant is dim with candles lit, but it still has a casual feel to it. Appetizers burrata bruschetta, walnut bread, mushroom truffle honey 8 As soon as the appetizer hit the table, you get a whiff of the truffle honey. This was amazing! Everything complimented each other so well. The bread added a nice texture to the bruschetta. I was so close to ordering another one. chicken liver crostini alla toscana 7 If you don't like liver, don't order this. It didn't taste like liver at first, but it hits you in the end. It wasn't bad though but I dont hate liver like most people do. gnocchi with porcini & smoked pancetta 9 The pancetta was smoked perfectly and the gnocchi was perfectly made! lamb chops with arugula & organic yogurt 15 Seriously the BEST lamb chops I've ever had in my life!!!! You don't need the arugula or the yogurt. Just plain up eat that lamb chop by itself. It's full of flavor and melts in your mouth. Orgasmic. Entrees lasagne alla bolognese 17 You know it's a good lasagne when the cheese is sizzling on the top and it's a perfect golden brown. The prettiest lasagne I've ever seen in my life. Careful though, it's super hot when it first comes out. And that bolognese sauce that comes with it, absolutely incredible! You could taste that everything is fresh! squid ink with calamari 15 The flavors were really good! Flavors were better here than in the saffron one. saffron with osso buco 16 Comfort food at it's finest. It's like eating beef noodle soup but substituting it with risotto. Dessert panna gelato with extra virgin olive oil & sea salt 7 Sea salt, olive oil, and gelato?! Super easy to make yet super delicious! I should put salt and olive oil on all my ice cream from now on! Does that make me fancy? A wonderful meal to end my amazing birthday =)

The walnut bread/buratta appetizer is my favorite appetizer in all of SF (and I'm a foodie and have tried quite a few!)! I love it so much I decided to write my first Yelp review! :)

Must order the appetizers and pizza! Thin crust pizza is more than worth the price. The beef carpaccio was light and perfect for the appetizer. For dessert I has the hazelnut and caramel gelato. Fantastic. However, for lunch, I came just for dessert and has tiramisu which was a disappointment. Soggy on the bottom and didn't taste super fresh. However, I definitely recommend Beretta for dinner

God. Wow. Really? You know how you think you know your best friend? Or your significant other? I mean, clearly they possess greatness, or they would not have achieved this top level in the first place. Right? You don't want, need, or expect them to get any better...because, frankly, there's no need for them to get any better. They're already great. You know this. You appreciate this. They've earned your love, & you're not gonna forget it. Right? Then they go & actually exceed your unexpectations...?! Whaaat?! That's a keeper. And that's Beretta. Oh, Beretta. You've already earned the top spot. A long time ago. We love you for dinner (especially your meatballs & your pizzas). We love you for drinks. We love you for dinner AND drinks. We love you so much that we don't mind how cramped & noisy it gets, or how long the wait is. And we're picky. Very picky. Then, somehow, you decided one day to do brunch. Perfectly reasonable. SF loves brunch. And SF REALLY loves DRUNCH (drinks & brunch). Seems like an obvious move for you, being the cocktail heavy hitter that you are... But, man. You just kick-ass at brunch too? Can you be so friggin perfect?! My man & I did the Sosh Best Kept Secret Brunch today. And you guys just hit it outta the park. I don't think you were even TRYING. That's the most impressive part. You just do it. It's like it's just intrinsic or something. Like you just don't know how to do anything less. The Food... The best breakfast hash I've ever had. Your take on this dish is perfection. The eggs & boudin? I don't even remember what it's called. I remember that it was like a bread based frittata... & that it was FABULOUS. The breakfast pizza? Holy cow. Perfect crust much?! Sweet, but not too sweet. Soft, but not too soft. Crisp. Everywhere. Throughout the entire pie?! No soggy?! Hallelujah!!! I mean, in a city that holds pizza up at a level close to the level of like, Willie Mays... Beretta just kills it. This is the crust that Jersey Pizza wants to be. Yeah, I said it. And I'm not even gonna try to compare it to Tony's crust. He's great, & all his crusts are great. I'm just stating the obvious. But that does not negate how utterly awesome your crust is, Beretta. We can absolutely love you both, just as much. Like, the way people love their spouse AND their kids, AND their dog. Right? Whatever accolades you guys have gotten thus far... not enough. You guys deserve 10 stars. Our drinks... I asked our waiter, Sioux, to bring me a cocktail that would take my massive hangover away. Please, God. What happens? The bartender himself brings me a drink called penicillin #2. Ginger, honey, mezcal. Nice front door service. It did the trick, too. Then, after our meal, we got 2 complementary FERNET JELLO SHOTS?! Aesthetically & culinarily, you actually do daytime just as well as you do nighttime. I didn't think that was really possible. I'm beyond impressed. You're like that supermodel that still looks good even without makeup & in baggy clothes. #rare Top notch service. Zero pretension. Easy, breezy, beautiful. One of the best restaurants in SF. On a short list.

Good pizza with delicious crust but Do Not order their mortadella appetizer! It is not mortadella, it tastes like a large thinly sliced hot dog. Their music selection sucks. Their tiramisu is decent. Overall over priced with their $9 hot dog appetizers and $11 mixed drinks.

The few times I've been here have always been super crowded and came with at least a 45 minute wait to be seated for dinner since they do not take resis for groups smaller than 6. I did come once right around opening for a late lunch/early dinner, so if you want to avoid the wait I suggest coming then and maybe not on a Friday. But other than that, the wait has always been worth it cuz the food does not disappoint! During my latest visit, my cousins and I decided to come on a Friday night right at their peak dinner hour around 7pm. The wait was 45 mins-an hour. They took one of my cousin's number down and we decided to wait at a dive bar a few doors down to have a drink while we waited. They sent us a text when our table was ready and we got sat right away. The ambiance is modern and dim, but crowded and loud. Our table was nestled very closely to the party next to us and behind us, so you will have to compete with other convos going on around you. The menu is pretty much family style, so we always pick whichever food stands out to us so we can all share and get a taste of everything. For antipasti we decided on the gnocchi with porcini and smoke pancetta. The gnocchi itself looked a lot smaller than I've had before, but it was so soft, fluffy and buttery it was like chewing on pillows...so good! We also decided on the fried asparagus which wasn't anything significant, but the caper aioli dipping sauce was a nice touch. From previous visits, I've also tried the zucchini parmigiana with scamorza and basil, which reminds me of lasagna but instead of the pasta and meat, the zucchini was light and fresh. We decided on a simple margherita pizza which was a thin cut pizza. I've definitely had better at other places, but it wasn't bad. One of my favorites that I've tried before was the asparagus, panna, fontina, egg, pancetta and sage...a very unique combo with amazing taste and texture! As for the risotto, I always go for the squid ink because idk where else you can get this dish and it's so delicious! It kind of is an acquired taste and it may not sound appealing, but it's really not as seafoody or fishy as you'd think. The texture of the risotto is very thick and rich and the calamari rings add a nice texture to it. I'd definitely recommend this dish. They have specials every day of the week so we decided to try the lasagna alla Bolognese. It was cheesy, hot, and layered with nicely cooked lasagna. I personally liked eating the edges since it had a slight crunch to it. Overall, it was a very enjoyable dinner. If you don't mind loud atmosphere, the food is worth checking out. Also, their drink menu offers unique cocktails to cater to everyone's taste. Some of my faves were the anejo sour (tequila, lemon, agave and egg white) and the Lonsdale (gin, apple, lemon, basil, honey). The service is so-so, it was hard to flag down our server when we needed something, but you can kind of expect it on a busy Friday night. I would probably try coming here during the week for a better experience.

I've always wanted to go to Beretta. The fact they don't take reservations for small groups has always deterred me. When a friend decided to throw his birthday dinner here, I finally had the chance to go! We had a party of 11, so we had get a large party menu. The birthday boy decided on the $45 per person menu. With each menu, you're able to choose which dishes you want per course. It was a pretty good reflection of their normal menu. Antipasti: *marinated castelvetrano olives with citrus *meatballs in spicy tomato sauce *walnut bread with burrata & mushroom-truffle honey *fritto misto - fried calamari, shrimp, green beans & fennel I love meatballs, so that was my favorite dish. Who can say no to juicy, saucy balls?! The calamari was also great. Nice and crispy. I didn't really care for the burrata bread as there wasn't much burrata on it. The menu came with marinated olives. I'm not a huge fan of olives, but anyone that likes them will enjoy this dish. Salads: *arugula & fennel salad with shaved parmesan The salad itself didn't have much flavor. Just tasted of oil and shaved parmesan. I wanted more of a vinegar flavor to balance it. But the salad was great on the pizza! I love arugula as a topping, so this was perfect. Pizza: *fungi misti - mushrooms, tomato, fontina & thyme *spicy italian sausage, panna & spring onions Yum! The pizzas were the highlight of the night! Crust had a great chew. The mushroom pizza was my favorite. Great earthy flavor. And the sausage had a slight kick to it. Both were delicious and super comforting. Risotto: *squid ink risotto with calamari I've had a couple of squid ink dishes lately and I don't think I'm a huge fan. There's an earthy sea flavor I don't really care for. I had a couple bites of the risotto and I found it too wet and mushy for my tastes. But a girlfriend that loves squid ink anything enjoyed it. Main Course: *ricotta cannelloni with tomato-sausage The main course is determined by what day you have your meal. Ricotta cannelloni wouldn't have been my first choice, but it was surprisingly good. It was a great melding of flavors. Cheesy and saucy. Dessert: a selection from our dessert menu (+$4 pp) *panna gelato with extra virgin olive oil & sea salt *bonet-chocolate gelato with amaretti & caramel *tiramisu with rum-mascarpone *coppa of dulce de leche variegato The dessert course was great! The coppa was amazing. Such rich caramel flavors. It was my favorite dessert. The tiramisu was good too. Great coffee and rum flavor. The gelatos were my least favorite. I'm not a huge fan of sweet and salty so the olive oil and sea salt were not my cup of tea. And chocolate isn't really one of my favorite desserts. The menu wasn't perfect, but the pizza and desserts made up for it!

First time here last night, carpaccio, lamb chops, cannelloni, and strawberry & goat cheese salad (can't remember the name of the greens) were done right. 3 mescal drinks later and we left happy around 1am. Monica & friends were very friendly. Good vibes.

Came here for lunch to celebrate a belated birthday. Fate decided this was the perfect sunny spring day for such a lunch. I'm glad I finally came to Beretta. The interior and the menu were very New York City. A short but classy menu and great drinks. I had gnocchi which I thought were meatballs in a tiny bowl. No this is plenty of cheesy gnocchi with creamy sauce. The menu changes often and the drinks are great. I would think of coming here for lunch more than dinner, though.

What an AWESOME spot for brunch! Affordable, no wait, great food. My personal entree was lackluster, but everything else made up for it. COST: Very affordable! $19 total for my entree and split of the walnut bread starter. THE WAIT: Best part ever. NONE for four at noon on a Saturday!! MUST-HAVES: Carbonara pizza on the brunch menu! Walnut bread. And any drink. BRUNCH: yelp.com/biz_photos/bere… * Pizza: carbonara w/ bacon, eggs, mozzarella, pecorino & cracked black pepper ($13) - 5 stars pic: yelp.com/biz_photos/bere… This was amazing! The bacon was more like ham, but it was thick and had an intense savory flavor. Not so much crisp if that's what you're looking for, but this was super rich and the runny yolks were the best. * Budino: parmesan & scallion bread pudding topped w/ fried eggs over a mixed green salad ($11) - 3 stars pic: yelp.com/biz_photos/bere… This and the carbonara were highly recommended by the bartender from the Brunch menu. He was spot on with the pizza, but I found this really lackluster and boring. The bread pudding wasn't too soft, and it had very little flavor. The salad underneath ends up getting squished and soggy, and the eggs are just kind of plopped on top. * Pamplemmouse: gin, lemon, grapefruit, basil, elderflower ($9) - 4.5 stars pic: yelp.com/biz_photos/bere… Amazing! Very refreshing, delicious, yet delightfully boozy. ANTIPASTI: yelp.com/biz_photos/bere… * Walnut bread, burrata, mushroom-truffle honey ($8) - 4.5 stars pic: yelp.com/biz_photos/bere… cross-section: yelp.com/biz_photos/bere… I really liked this as a starter. The bread had just enough crisp to add texture, which contrasted well with the thick creamy burrata. The sweetness mixed with the subtly savory flavor of the burrata worked great. Regular pizza menu: yelp.com/biz_photos/bere… Regular cocktail menu: yelp.com/biz_photos/bere… I saw the bartender making these cocktails and they looked amazing (I asked what he was making): Añejo Sour (tequila, lemon, agave, egg white, $11) & Nuestra Paloma (tequila, elderflower, cointreau, grapefruit, bitters, $10)!

We had a group of 6 and needed a place next to BART. Just a couple of blocks from Mission and 24th and a beautiful atmosphere! Started with drinks. So. Good. An actual bartender that mixes everything to a tee. Went on to have meatballs, bruschetta, beet salad and sweet potato fries to share. Ah-mazing. Their meatballs were spicy and their sauce is delicious. I'm an east coaster so I'm picky when it comes to both-they didn't disappoint! We went on to have the mushroom/truffle and ink risotto dishes with a pizza to share. Everything was delicious and the service was on point. Shared tiramisu and the sea salt-olive oil dish for dessert and everyone loved both. Highly recommended! We will be back.

WOW-everything was delicious! I was completely full, but didn't want to leave and end this amazing experience. Conveniently located 5 minutes from the 101 on Valencia St. Street parking was easy to find on a Sunday afternoon. Beretta serves contemporary Italian comfort food that packs immense flavor! We were seated as soon as we walked through the door on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. We started with fritto misto di pesce, which was a delicious blend of lightly battered and deep-fried shrimp, squid, calamari, onion, and string beans served with an amazing marinara sauce (a great balance of sweet and spicy). After devouring this tasty appetizer we were pumped! Our fritto misto di pesce was so good we decided to order another appetizer: eggplant caponatina with burrata. Another slam dunk! The balance of sweet and salty was perfect. The olives and capers mixed so well with the sweet burrata cheese...very happy so far! For our main course we went with a pizza: creamy spinach with field mushrooms, eggs, provolone & nutmeg. We loved the addition of fried eggs to the top! The mushrooms and creamy spinach blended very well together. We dipped the crust in the marina sauce from our appetizer! We couldn't leave without trying the panna gelato with extra virgin olive oil & sea salt. Olive oil and salt on ice cream? AGAIN these guys hit it out of the park! Wonderful combo of flavors-Beretta has mastered the fine art of balancing sweet and salty. I recommend you come hungry and order a variety of appetizers-you'll be hard pressed to find flavors like this anywhere else. Reminds me of food back in NY-rich and flavorful! Service was great and the ambiance was cool, although loud. I was watching the bartender create a masterful concoction-this is a place where everyone has an eye for detail and strives for perfection. My only regret is that we didn't order another appetizer...will definitely be back next time in San Fran! Well done, this place deserves no less than 5 stars.

Generally tasty food and drinks. Recommend the zucchini pizza for sure, though the risottos are also very good. All of the whiskey-based cocktails I've had here have been really nice. It's not impossible to get in for 2 on the weekend if you come after 8:30 and are willing to sit at the community table. Service has always been prompt and friendly.

Got there at 530 right before the rush for dinner and were seated right away. We ordered the pear pizza and glasses of prosecco and it was DELICIOUS. The server brought us Saba (?) to kick up the flavor to the pizza and wow. So. Good. The pizza was the perfect size to split with one other person. Very relaxed atmosphere and there's the option of sitting at the bar or a table. Will definitely go back.

Was looking for a late night dinner spot (we just weren't hungry til 10pm) to lounge with friends and celebrate the bf's birthday. Beretta popped up on Yelp with a good rating and a good amount of reviews. Plus it closes at 1 am on a Tues night giving us plenty of time to eat, drink, and chat. Parking can be a bit tricky since it's the Mission and all metered street parking with few residential areas. Luckily it was a bit later so parking was easy to find. Walking up to the restaurant, the outside was simple yet modern. They have a nice bench outside for when there's a wait and they have outdoor seating with heated lamps. Inside they had a nice bar with bar seating, bench tables, and regular tables. The lighting was dim. It had a trendy ambiance. Many of the customers were dressed up, looked like a real fancy restaurant when we walked in. I even had to ask the hostess if there was a dress code because some of our party was dressed down, I mean in basketball shorts and a t shirt. The reassured that there's no dress code. Minus 1 star because we had a party of 4 and 2 of us were there early (which is half and reasonable in my opinion to be seated) and they made us wait until the entire party was there. I would understand if the place was packed and there was a line, but there were multiple open tables available and no other parties waiting to be seated. So we had to wait outside in nighttime chilly sf weather for the other two to arrive. We ordered a bottle of wine based on our waiter's recommendation. It was a great pick and we ended up ordering 2. (Sorry don't remember the name) Price was reasonable, $36 per bottle. Now for the food: 1. Chicken Liver Crostini: I liked it and would give it 4 stars. It wasn't a pate but actual liver chunks and had real liver flavor. It is a bit gamey. 2. Meatballs: 4 stars. Very flavorful and juicy. 3. Herb Onion bread w/ EVOO: 5 stars. A MUST GET. We were fighting over this. The bread was flavorful and hot with a little bit of crunch. A pretty hearty appetizer. And you can't go wrong with some olive oil. 4. Dungeness Crab Arancini with Calabrese Aioli: 5 stars. Another MUST GET. This was delicious too. Loads of flavor, nice big size, and real crab meat inside. The sauce complimented it very well too. Prob my fav dish of the night. 5. Squid Ink Risotto: First time trying squid ink and I LOVED IT. The first few bites were a 5 but overall I would give it a 4.5. It is very buttery, rich, and heavy. I definitely wouldn't be able to it all myself. Definitely a dish too share because of the richness and heaviness. I took off half a star because after a while it gets harder to eat. 6. Grilled Vegetables, Tomato, Pesto & Mozzarella Pizza- We added sausage to ours. 5 stars. I'm not a pizza fan, but I enjoyed the pizza here. It was very flavorful and I like that it's thin crust. Service was excellent. Price was reasonable. Our bill came out to be a little over $200 for 4 people. I had a great experience here and will definitely be returning. Definitely a great place for friends to have good food and drinks. It's also a good date spot too. I'll have to have a girls night out here.

I've never had the pleasure of dining at Beretta, but my cousin had some left over squid ink risotto that she generously shared with me. OH MY GAWD, one of the best risottos I've ever tasted. Don't let the color of the risotto scare you; the taste totally makes up for it. I'll definitely have to go to Beretta to have it again in the restaurant and try some other dishes while I'm there. Might as well, right?

Beautiful restaurant, loved the tables and the ambiance. food wise- we ordered the kale salad, the sweet potato fries, the cauliflower, and two pizzas for 5 ladies. It was so delish. We had the Marguerite pizza on steroids and a pizza with zucchini. all of the drinks we had were sooooooo good.

Some of the BEST wood fired pizza I've had in this city (IF you can get a seat, that is). Came with a friend and snagged seats at the bar. After about 30 mins (20 mins after we were promised seats), we were seated at a small table near the window. Let the feast begin! We started off with brussels sprouts, zucchini parmigiana with scamorza & basil, and asked for some grilled bread to soak up the freaking delicious sauce the zucchini is baked in. Now on to the pizza! We ordered the spicy marinara, peperoncini & olives +anchovies +burrata. The anchovies were salty and complimented the brininess of the peperonchini's. So delicious, so yum. So after being more than super full, we ordered panna gelato with extra virgin olive oil & sea salt which was perfectly salty, perfectly sweet, and something I wanted to order again right after we finished the first dessert. Really like this hipster pizza joint. I'll be back when I don't mind waiting for noms.

Fantastic apps and great wine list. Pizza was just good but not amazing. Busy place so be prepared to wait. Has a good bar section if there is room.

3.5 stars! Beretta is a great restaurant to come to after work with some friends for both drinks and dinner or for a date. They're known for their pizzas and cocktails, and I have to admit they are good at both of those. I came here with a group of 6 and got: -2 orders of Spicy Meatballs: Delicious! Each order comes with 2 pieces of decent-sized meatballs and 2 toasted breads. The meatballs are moist while the marinara sauce that comes underneath it is just so flavorful! I wanted to lick the plate clean, which I pretty much did with the bread that came with it. -Dungeness Crab Arancini: The dish itself was delicious. I could taste the real crab meat in the arancini, and for what's supposed to be "fried risotto" it was pretty light which was a plus. My only problem with the dish was that it consisted of 4 pieces were tiny (probably two bites each), and for the price tag, I was a little let down. -Margherita Pizza: This was okay. It was good, and I liked that their pizza crust/dough was crisp on the outside but chewy on the inside. The margherita was light, but it just wasn't a stand-out dish as I've had margherita pizza at other pizza places that execute the flavors much better. -Proscuitto and Arugula Pizza: I enjoyed this one much better than the margherita. It was also still light, but the arugula and proscuitto all added subtle flavors that made the pizza light but not bland. It's not an extremely creative pizza in terms of ingredients, but I thought the flavor was better executed than the margherita -Squid Ink Risotto: The risotto is delicious. I usually steer clear from ordering risotto at italian restaurants because I can never eat more than a few bites (since it's usually on the rich and heavy side of dishes) but this one was executed well where the rice was still al dente but the risotto wasn't overloaded with rich and heavy flavors. My only concern was that I felt the flavors didn't pop out that much (I was expecting a stronger squid ink/overall seafood flavor) and there wasn't much calamari as I had expected, for the price tag. Overall, I think the restaurant is great and everything is delicious. The reason I downgraded them to 3 stars were for a few reasons: 1. For an Italian restaurant, their menu isn't all that extensive outside of antipasti and pizza. 2. The service was a little rushed. We felt like the servers were in a hurry to get us in and out. I can understand that the restaurant gets packed, but for a pretty large group that ordered a lot of food and cocktails, I would've expected them to be a bit nicer. 3. Their pricetag in general for most of their dishes seem a little overpriced for the taste and portions, except their pizzas. Would I come back? Maybe, if someone asked me to get dinner there again, but with the abundance of amazing Italian restaurants in SF, I don't think I would go out of my way to come here again.

I absolutely LOVE Beretta. It's my go-to place or suggestion for those moments you have friends in town you really want to wow without draining your wallet. It's more than just a pizza place--it's got full on handmade cocktail cred too. I've been here more times than I can count and the best part about this place is it's consistency. The ambiance is casual, hip and vintage. Stop by for a Lonsdale. Start with some dungeness crab aracini, walnut bread with burrata and mushroom truffle honey, and meatballs in the spicy tomato sauce. Balance that out with the winter greens, blood orange, fennel croutons salad before you indulge in any pizza subbed with burrata (for only $6 more) and end your night with the panna gelato with extra virgin olive oil & sea salt. Now I am hungry...

We came here a few weekends ago to celebrate a friend's birthday. Luckily we were seated downstairs, so there was a little more light and a little less noise than upstairs. We ordered a bunch of food because our group of 9 was very hungry! Unfortunately, the appetizers all came out at different times, and they even forgot one of our apps even though we kept on reminding them. Review of appetizers: Roasted beets with ricotta salata- pretty good, but tiny portion Fried sweet potato w/ gorgonzola/parmesan- your average sweet potato fries, but giant portion! Ordered this one again. Burrata bruschetta- reallly good! Ordered this one again. Brussell sprouts with capers/sage- when it finally came out after a million reminders, it was good! We got 5 pizzas for the table, and the ones I tried were the spicy marinara/peperoncini/olives with cheese added and the margherita burrata. They both were okay, but the spicy one was a bit better. The crust wasn't very good. It was too hard, not very flavorful, and a bit burnt. Meh. If I was solely reviewing the food, this place would get a 3.5 stars. BUT, it was the sassy waiter who has brought this review down to a meager 2. The birthday group had a gift card, so our total of $202 for 9 people was brought down to $102 for 6 people. When we got our individual receipts, the waiter had divided the $202 amongst the 6 of us (the charge was ~$33 per person). I immediately did the third grade division in my head and realized- WAIT A MINUTE! He completely ignored the fact that we gave a $100 gift card! I politely told the waiter, "I think there's been a mistake here- we had a $100 gift card so it should be $102 into 6, which is much less than $33--" And the waiter cuts me off and says, "NOPE. I don't make mistakes." He starts to walk away but I ask him to please look at the math because "I might be wrong but I think there's an error." I knew I wasn't wrong, my friends knew I wasn't wrong- I passed third grade! Around 15 minutes later, the tall, messy hair, glasses wearing waiter comes out and doesn't even look me in the eye when he says, "there was an error with the computer system soo yeah here's the new receipt". I'm so glad I checked and didn't let the guy scam us. Would I come back? No. Food was okay, but more than anything, the waiter was rude. You do not reply to paying customers with a "nope".

Great atmosphere--lively music, but noise was low enough that we could still easily have conversations. Communal tables added a playful touch and coat hooks under table were pragmatic. Delicious cocktails. I had the Lonsdale (gin, apple, lemon, basil, honey). Almost too sweet, but actually perfect. Exceptional gnocchi with porcini & smoked pancetta. Crispy and complex flavour. Will be back.

I have had to come to Beretta three times before I was able to actually go in. The wait is usually ridiculous averaging more than an hour. That being said, when I actually got a table here, the cocktails are excellent! I got the Kentucky Mule and it certainly had a kick with the amount of ginger. The food was great though the menu is a bit more heavy on the appetizers list. I loved the burrata bruschetta with walnut bread, mushroom truffle honey. I was also extremely satisifed with the squid ink with calamari risotto. I have been looking around everywhere in SF for a place that serves squid ink sauce (rather than just the pasta being made from squid ink). I LOVE IT.

i can very confidently say that this might be one of my very favorite restaurants in the city. it's just that good. i've never had a bad dish here. yes, the wait is grueling at times - but, oh man...it's just the price you have to pay for a place this good. you can't go wrong with the pizzas, but other favorites of mine are: burrata bruschetta polenta brussel sprouts gnocchi crab arancini arugula and fennel salad prosciutto risotto their cocktails are also exquisite.

One of my favorite restaurants in the city at the moment.. I've been to Beretta twice now and it's all about that squid ink risotto that's got me coming back for more. The first time I came in for dinner with a couple friends and we had the arugula and fennel salad, the prosciutto di parma, tomato, arugula & mozzarella pizza, and of course, the squid ink risotto. The three of us shared a bottle of wine along with the meal. For the second time around, I came in for a late lunch with my boyfriend. We tried the cocktails that we've heard so many good things about and shared the squid ink risotto between the two of us since it was his first time at the restaurant. I had the Lonsdale and he tried the Rattlesnake, both of which were very well-made..packed with flavor, and also really refreshing. Beretta is a great date spot or a nice place to come by for a drink. I'd keep the groups to a 4-6 person max since the restaurant is a bit small.

First stop on the Mission Mezcal crawl today. John mixed 3 phenomenal drinks: the Nuestra Paloma with Ancho Reyes (John's special), an Oaxacan Old Fashioned (my favorite), and a Grand chichi Negroni. Educated me on mixology, including a tour of Vermouth. Stole my heart. The food is phenomenal here too. Pair almost anything with the spicy margherita with burrata. You won't regret it.

Ate here with friends and was so stoked by the appetizers we offered. All were flavorful and we had all of them. Craft cocktails = so good and must do ! Going back 4 sure Pizza was our entree. Stellar crust. Margarita was my favorite.

Great spot! This place is a great local option. The prices are right, the food is tasty (burata pizza = delicious) and the drinks are yummy. Line can be an issue during high time, but they are open late, so you can avoid it. Love the relaxed, but sophisticated atmosphere.

I've only eaten here once but I wouldn't go back. A reservation for nine for a birthday celebration was seated at two tables separated by a giant wooden pillar, such that even with both tables pushed against it we were separated and effectively in two groups at two tables. The anti pasti we ordered was OK, but very overpriced for the tiny quantities. Sweet potato fries were soggy. And the squid ink risotto that three of us ordered was runny, tasteless slop. Pass.

This place is great. Ducked in here for a quick dinner before a Diwali party. We weren't super hungry but we got some delicious apps and shared them (the winter salad is absolutely fantastic) and a couple drinks. Their version of the Paloma was everything I wanted on that kind of dreary evening. Parking is plentiful on the street, there wasn't a line, they were playing the Giants game on the projector. I couldn't complain about this place if I wanted to-- I'm reserving that last star though because I heard that their pizzas are amazing and I have not tried one yet so I cannot attest. Can't wait to go back!

After being turned down by the snotty folks over at Foreign Cinema, we strolled over to Beretta. AWESOME place. Good vibe, good people watching and fantastic brunch. The frittata was one of the best I've ever had. The hostess was kind, gracious and welcoming. All three of us enjoyed our meal tremendously. Highly recommended for Sunday brunch!

We decide to go there for dinner because was 10pm and this was open till 1pm. The place it's very pretty half way between a pub and a restaurant with music low light but very very cute! THE FOOD WAS GREAT!!! we had some antipasti like risotto parmigiana zucchini than a margHerita two drinks ( strong but easy to drink ! ) and at the end we had a dessert with amaretti caramel and chocolate ice cream. Everything was really really good! I strongly suggest this pleace for a nice dinner and drinks! The only bad thing is that there is no wifi

Service was good. We were immediately seated at what seems to be a busy hour for them. Decor is like shabby chic meets goth. We ordered the margarita pizza, squid risotto, frittata, 5 variety meat plate, walnut bread mushroom truffle honey and the arugula Parmesan salad. Drinks: house made lemonade and ginger soda. Out of all the dishes I'd probably go back for the squid risotto and the walnut bread. Squid risotto dish was rich, creamy and filling. Walnut bread bruschetta was delicious and flavorful.

Today I spent 30 minutes discussing Beretta and I haven't been there for over 2 years due to relocation not by choice. Yes, the food and cocktails are that delicious and worth the wait. The Prosciutto di parma, tomato, arugula & mozzarella pizza is a must. This is on my list of places to re-eat since my return to the city.

Came here for brunch and did it family style so that we can all share and try many things together! Dishes: 1. Ricotta cannelloni with tomato-sausage: I thought this was really delicious! The tomato sauce was fantastic, and I love ricotta cheese. I must say, I don't really taste too much of the sausage, but it was a creamy and hearty dish. 2. Prosciutto di parma, tomato, arugula & mozzarella pizza: thin crust, lots of arugula on top if you are a fan of arugula, it tastes very fresh, don't remember eating tomatoes on it 3. Spicy italian sausage, panna & green onions: It was good, but not memorable to me.. 4. Prosciutto, asparagus and mozzarella scramble: this tasted like a standard brunch dish to me, the roasted potatoes wasn't anything special compared to other places, they give you hefty side of salad. I definitely want to come back and try the dinner menu. Location is perfect for a date night. If you want to make a reservation, it has to be a party of 6 or more, but you can always call in to put your name on a waitlist!

We were looking for an italian spot for dinner in the mission area on a Monday night. We went over to flour and water around 10:30 and couldn't be seated for over an hour so we headed over to Beretta. We were a party of four and were seated right away. It was surprisingly crowded for a Monday night, every other table and bar area was full. The restaurant is very small, nice vibe, intimate and dimly lit. They have a long table by the bar for communal seating so don't be surprised if you end up sharing a long table with some other people. The food was deliciosu across the board. All dishes were great for sharing, similar to "tapas" style. We ordered the arugula & fennel salad with shaved parmesan which was good, simple, light dressing. The beef carpaccio with arugula, parmesan & capers was great, the lemon and olive oil made the beef stand out. The lamb chops were perfectly grilled but a little fatty. The saffron with osso buco was absolutely delicious, a must order! The braised veal shank was great and the sauce paired nicely. It was on the creamier side so a good dish to share since a little much for one person and on the bigger side. One of the best risottos I've had. The squid ink risotto was also delicious, silky and rich. We got the panna gelato with olive oil and sea salt for dessert. This was vanilla gelato with sea salt and extra virgin olive oil. This wasn't my favorite but others loved it. If you are into salty, this is for you. Cocktails were great and strong too. Great place for unique local bites. You can't go wrong with any of the risottos. If you're craving italian, definitely give Beretta a try, you won't be disappointed!

Food is good, but their "reservation" system is a joke. They advise you call ahead and put your name on a list, and then you arrive they explain that your simply being put on a list to be ahead of walking, but your still looking at 60-90 minutes min to be seated. What is the point? Unless you have several hours to wait without starving, this is a good place for you.

    (3)
  • Liz C.

The wait was pretty long and not worth it due to the fact that the waitress was very crude(rudimentary). The food was good but will not be going to this establishment again when there are so many restaurants. So if you want to avoid being treated inhumanely best not to attempt to eat here.

    (1)
  • Heather H.

The wait can be up to 2 hours so make sure to be prepared. You can call in up to 2 hours in advance to put your name in. Pizza's meatballs and some spicy jalapeno cocktails are amaze! Be prepared - if you're sharing a table, tough luck!

I would not recommend this restaurant for private or semi-private parties. I booked a ten-person dinner in their "shared" private room downstairs with a pre-set menu for a family goodbye party. With no notice whatsoever, the restaurant decided to stuff our party into a table in the back of the general restaurant (not the private room) which could comfortably fit about 8 people. We were squeezed up against another large table and everyone was uncomfortable. It was clear that the restaurant simply decided that it was not worthwhile to them to staff their private room for that particular night, despite our reservation there. When we complained, we got some free appetizers, but no one offered to move us downstairs. The party was not at all the experience we were hoping for, and it was extremely difficult to get comfortable (especially for an older relative of mine with back problems). The manager was apologetic and did deduct some money from the bill -- which is the ONLY reason I'm giving two stars instead of one -- but even with the discounted price I would never have booked the party at Beretta had I known how it would end up.

Really great cocktails and good food. It's always way too crowded and the wait times are usually longer than the host stand estimates. I'd recommend going for brunch on the weekends when it's relatively quiet, or a later dinner (after 10pm) because the kitchen is open late.

Went here with my cousin from Australia who has been here before and recommended it. Place was busy but fortunately they gave us a spot at the bar where we could have a drink while we waited to be seated. We started a tab only to be told when we took our seats that this had to be settled before we ate. Being from Australia this meant an additional use of the credit card with an additional international fee We ordered the meat antipasto plate and vegetarian pizza. Both were really nice and served in good time. It took a but if time to get the check and pay but that was due to how busy it was. All in all a good meal that would have got 5 stars if they just transferred the tab like any other restaurant

One of the best restaurants in the Bay not just for food but for the atmosphere and staff. Welcoming hostess, wonderful service, and above all the food is mouth-watering memorable. My favorites are: - Walnut bread w/ burrata, mushroom-truffle honey: it's a classic here - Eggplant caponatina w/ burrata: eggplant, celery, pinenuts, peppers, cheese. perfect amount of crunchy and soft - Arugula & fennel salad with shaved parmesan - Fungi misti pizza- mushrooms, fontina, thyme - Panna gelato with extra virgin olive oil & sea salt

I came here with two of my friends on a Friday evening. Since we were only a party of 3, we weren't able to make a reservation. Although, since I did call the day before, I found out that we could call in an hour before and add our name to the waitlist. Since we did, our wait was reduced to about 30 minutes. We were seated near the bar between a few other groups. I would say this was the only con, it was quite cramped, but it's also not a big deal. We had the herb onion bread, Grilled Vegetable Pizza, and Funghi and Truffled Panna Risotto. The food was amazing, especially the risotto! We did not have any of the drinks, so I can't speak to those. The service was also really good and our server, Kevin was extremely friendly. We had several questions as to what meats were in the dishes (there were none, but we were just being cautious) and he kindly answered them all. I'd definitely recommend this place to vegetarians! We got our food relatively quickly after we ordered. The atmosphere is extremely lively.

Got there at 530 when they opened for dinner. Was probably the 3rd or 4th one in with my fiance. Server took forever to even approach us. Took our order after about 10 minutes of waiting ordered a pizza salad and a soda. Got the salad and soda then waited another 40 minutes for the pizza and never got amything. Waiter was really rude giving me smart answers when I asked him simple questions like what sodas they had or what salad dressing they had. Seemed like he had no idea what they even serve there.. overall, never going back. Little ceasars over this place.

Beretta offers a chill environment with dim lights and is a great place for dinner and drinks before a night out. The food was good and if you haven't had it, you should go for the squid risotto. I'd come back, but expect to spend some money.

Good place to have a birthday dinner with a large group - more than 10. We were seated downstairs and in hindsight I preferred it that way since it was less noisy. The upstairs has a more trendy and cool vibe though. We ordered the $45 set menu and while everything was good that is just too much food. I got full on the fantastic pizzas alone! I thought the desserts (Panna Gelato is great, tiramisu was okay) were pretty good as well. Unless you have a much larger group I suggest getting the least pricey menu, then order additions from the regular menu. Note the first couple times I went here their food was okay, even the pizzas were just okay, but the drinks were pretty good. That was not enough to return considering the crowdedness and lack of parking in the area. However, this was a good gastronomic visit and I will return whenever possible. Milestone: the 8,000th Useful vote's review.

Excellent food. Everything I tried was done well but my absolute favorite was the squid ink risotto -I couldn't get enough. Other items I tried were the ossobuco risotto, roasted beets, prosciutto pizza, beef carpaccio, sardines, and tiramisu -all were excellent. I will definitely be back here again.

This review is just for the cocktails and the bar. The cocktails are amazing!! Great diversity and flavor balance. The food is meh and the table service leaves you feeling like you stepped in dog shit on the way in. But the drinks! Oh man the drinks and the bar staff are the only reason I keep coming back. Be patient these cocktails take a while but they are truly a testament to the cocktail revolution happening in the industry world.

All i have to say is that their drinks are strong and I know this because two drinks in and : 1.When my coworker's husband came to join us, I was buzzed enough to have what I thought was friendly banter with him (to make him feel included) 2. According to my other coworker my banter wasn't friendly. 3. And I was not okay with her (#2 coworker) broadcasting it to the rest of the table. 4. Then I proceeded to send followup text messages about what I really thought about my (#2) coworker...to everyone. In summary....stay away from too many alcoholic beverages unless your aren't with your hater coworkers. Then have as many as you want :)

Whatever you do, do NOT come here for a group dinner. For a group of 7 people, were were seated in the downstairs area with several other parties. The ambiance was less than impressive and the entire evening was a total rip off for paying $40+ pp for a tiny helping of caesar salad, some olive appetizers, one slice of bruchetta pp and two slices of boring pizza pp. I had to ask the waiter 6 times to refill our water bottles. Will definitely not return as a group and maybe once more to have a cocktail at the bar.

I haven't written a review in a while, but I went to Beretta over the weekend, and I just had to write this review. To get straight to the point: THE FUNGHI RISOTTO. Oh my god, hands down the best risotto I have ever had in my entire life. You need to go to Beretta and order this risotto ASAP, because it will change your life. I also tried the grilled veggie & pesto pizza and the funghi pizza -- both were quite delicious. Desserts -- tiramisu and the chocolate gelato -- were also amazing.

What did you say? Sorry, but I'm still a little deaf from last night---not only do the conversations ricochet off the tin ceilings, and walls of this place, but someone internal decided that a little loud music would set the ambience. It certainly did. I guess when kids these days are guzzling energy drinks at a time in their lives when they have more energy than they know what to do with, this is to be expected. Aside from that, everything else was delightful. We had some of the same stuff we had at Chow, last week, all much better prepared here, and---wait for it---it actually cost a bit less to eat here. Yes, we did drink more at Chow... We had a theater engagement afterwards, and who wants to sit through 90 minutes of amateur theater with one's legs squeezed together? What didn't work (aside from the noise) the squid ink risotto. The flavors were spot on, the dish was delicious, but perhaps because the squid cooked along with the slow cooking rice, the squid was tough and chewy. I would not order that dish again. Our apps were the heirloom tomato bruschetta which had a nicely toasted baguette and richly flavored fresh tomatoes, with a pleasant hint of olive oil---crispy crunchy/smooshy fresh veggie. Mmmmmmnnnnnn. The Friend remembered the Burrata Bruschetta on walnut bread with truffle mushroom honey, from a previous visit, and we ordered that as well----our server intimated that other diners have had this dish for both an app and dessert, and if we weren't so full, or didn't have somewhere else to be, we might have just done that too. But there's another dessert we might have missed if we had; more on that later. The softness and gentle flavors of this cheese combined with the coarse dark walnut bread, and the truffled honey made for a perfect app that would indeed do well as a dessert. As mentioned the Mains were the Squid Ink Risotto :( and the Marguerita Burrata pizza (yeah, a lot of burrata). The pizza made up for what the over cooked squid left desired---nice crispy crust, a tangy yet well rounded tomato sauce and fresh unblemished leaves of basil. The very illustration of simplicity perfected. Our table neighbors, two exquisitely styled and made-up young women INSISTED that we have the Panna Gelato with Olive Oil and Sea Salt. Sounds almost too precious, with practically all the In Flavors except bacon (thank God for that: Can we stop with the Bacon Everywhere now?). But it wasn't. It was everything it was presented as by our table neighbor. I've had panna cotta gelato before, but this combination---very smooth, creamy, a bit tart from the cheese, mixed with the salt and the olive oil, came across as almost too rich, yet not quite. The portion was generous and is easily shared between two diners, provided one of them isn't a portion hogging swine. We both agreed that the thin, crispy cookie would have been perfect had it been a ginger cookie, but oh well. We had no reservations and the place was packed, although there were seats (reserved?) at the community table. We were settled into one of two tables straddling the partition between the door to the service kitchen and server's wine station, on the side closest to where the traffic was the heaviest. I suppose we could have asked for the table on the other side since both were empty. Our server was quite well informed, pleasant and competent. One feature we both liked was that the servers poured the wines by the glass, not the bartenders, so any order for wine did not get held up by cocktails. I did have two Negroni's though, and they were most delightful---as was my Cabernet Sauvignon and her white wine, whose name I've forgotten (the name of the wine, not my friend). Sadly, the Play was not nearly so entertaining as dinner. Then again, what could one expect from an 18 year old playwright talking Religion? I'll watch "Night of The Iguana" again and forget all about that.

Parking was tricky but it's the mission. 30 min wait even though we had a reservation. Had the: Lonsdale drink (pretty good) Dungeness crab aracini balls (good but not memorable) Chicken liver crostini (disappointed) Walnut bread w burrata (good but isn't burrata good everywhere?) Pizza (disappointed) Saffron osso bucco risotto (decent) Overall ok experience but not worth the wait IMO.

Beretta is conveniently located across the street from our apartment :) We love it here. Great service. Awesome craft cocktails. Amazing food. Sometimes we're in here multiple times a week it's just that good. No matter what I always know we'll have great food and a good time. Thanks for always being consistent Beretta! I'd recommend this to anyone who is a first timer in SF!

Came here for a bday. Love that we were able to do prefix for our group. Service was ok, we had the server to ourself most of the time, but it took us 30 minutes to pay the bill... Wfh? Pizza was yummy, everything else was not memorable. But it's a good bday spot since they can accommodate large group.

Really liked this place! We found it via yelp. I had the broccoli and pancetta pizza. Great tasting pizza. Good size for sharing. We also shared the funghi risotto. It was a very good risotto! My fiance ordered the daily special which was a pork chop - he said it was good and it looked perfectly cooked. The restaurant was packed but we did not have to wait. Come on a weeknight, since they don't take reservations and only seat you once the whole party has arrived. The prices here are very reasonable and I will definitely come back on my next trip to SF.

Maybe had high expectations but I did't think (nor my other 4 friends) that this place was that good. The only 5stars would go to the burrata, but pizzas were not tasty and we tried 3 of them. All of them seem very similar to me. Also, we were told to wait 45min and ended up waiting 1h and 15 min. We brought friends that were visiting ..so after all, I don't think trying Beretta was that great to be honest. Not sure why it is so so so popular!

It's a great place. The crab ball appetizers are amazing. Prepare yourself for an 1-2 hour wait without reservation.

The onion bread was good, and burrata pizza was amazing. The best part was the atmosphere and they make a great long island too. Definitely going back again.

This place is amazing!!!!! Bartenders are cordial and the drinks are on point and sophisticated! Food was some of the best I've ever had! I will definitely go again. The only setback is that its so busy where the volume is heightened more than I like.

The setting is really nice, chill packed seemed like a great social bar 1st/ restaurant 2nd. The risotto was good amd pizza was really unique, had the goat cheese. It a bit pricy.

So bomb. All the entrees I've had are really good, but the most amazing thing they have is the ice cream with sea salt and olive oil desert. It's incredible. The wait can be long, but the best way to avoid that is to go for a late meal - they're open super late.

Mistakes happen. It's just an undeniable part of life, but sometimes those mistakes are really f*cking awesome. Like, for instance, me. I was a mistake... and what a grand mistake I was. Not a good example? Well, fine. Jerks. How about the time me and my lady friends came to Beretta for some cocktails and ended up getting lured in by the allure of their Neapolitan-style pizza, ordered a Pear and Gorgonzola pizza and a Veggie pizza, but were brought out some sort of margherita with kalamata olive pizza that we didn't realize wasn't our latter pizza until half of it was already gone. Oops on their part and oops on our part, but if they'd try to take that pizza back from us they would have had to pry it from my cold, dead hands. It might be my new favorite pizza. Mistake pizza was definitely my favorite by a long shot, but all were pretty good and the best thing I'd eaten in the past few weeks. Service was good but not overly friendly and even less so when I tried to light a match with a candle that was on the bar. That's a big no-no apparently, but I really couldn't help it because my OCD was cruising on high and that match needed to me lit. The cocktails were pretty great, too, though getting a seat may be a different story. Especially when their bar is full of a buncha dicks, though I get the sense it was just our luck and a rarity for the venue to have such jerky jerks taking up way more space than necessary. I think the Grand Larceny cocktail was all our favorites, though some of us switched to sparkling rose after our first 2 rounds because I don't know... Girls night. Pink things. Whatever.

One of the best pizzas I've ever. The margarita burrata was perfect. Thin light crust with well balanced flavorful sauce and a dollop of creamy buttery delicious burrata cheese. :). Im glad i dont live to close or i would indulge way to often. The bar staff is also very knowledgeable and can make quality cocktails. You wont be disappointed!!!

The food is just great! I have tried several of their pizzas so far and really like them all. We recently tried the saffron risotto and that was great. Good wine selection. Very very long wait and no reservations for parties smaller than 6 people.

Beretta is a great place to go for good food, great ambiance, and excellent service. It's also conveniently located close to the 24th st BART station. What more could you ask for? The walnut bread, fungi pizza, beets, olives, and arugula salad were all excellent. Our server kept coming to check in on us, which was great and not overly aggressive either. It was quiet enough for us to have a dinner conversation, yet loud enough to be a lively bar/restaurant. Highly recommend this place!

I had the best cocktail I've ever sipped in my life! So A++ there. The salad was pretty boring and the pizza did not come close to some other places in the city. My server, pretty sure his name was Felix, was exceptional... fun and on point with everything. He gets five stars hands down

Food was alright. I had pizza, and risotto. Service was good. Three people, we all ordered two risottos and 1 egg pizza, two lemonades and 1 ginger soda. total was about $63.XX plus a 15%tax.

The spot is fancy, nice room and atmosphere (* good service) but I expected more from the food. Im french and I went to italy a lot of times. Pizza had almost no taste... Thats not a real italian restaurant in my opinion. Will come back to have drinks, not for food.

I'm the type of girl that needs to be fed every two hours. I'm not kidding... Beretta would be the perfect place to stuff my face with carbs until I want to cry. I can't say no to those tasty Neapolitan pizza with prosciutto di parma, tomato, arugula, and mozzarella. Yum! May I suggest getting the saffron with osso buco risotto? The braised veal shank was tenderly moist and juicy. A must order. I have a weakness for risotto and I'm glad I order this bad boys! Thank you Beretta for feeding this hungry girl in the middle of the day. You rock for opening at 4pm. Muah! The simple things in life.

I love Beretta! I would even give this a 5 star rating if it weren't so difficult to get seats. Definitely go early or go late for dinner, and expect that the dining area will get very very loud. That being said, Beretta is so highly affordable and does accessible, fresh, delicious Italian food perfectly. I'm not much of a drinker so I can't rate their cocktails, but everyone seems to love them. Must-gets: burrata bruschetta, walnut bread, mushroom truffle honey, oh my god, just get it. It's the perfect, crusty bite of bread with delicious, creamy, burrata cheese and earthy, sweet, honey. YUM For dessert, definitely get the panna gelato with extra virgin olive oil & sea salt. I know it sounds simple, but the combination of smooth vanilla gelato with a sprinkle of sea salt and the texture of olive oil will knock your socks off. Definitely try: Saffron risotto with osso bucco. Never will you have risotto this delicious in SF for less than $15. I know people enjoy their pizzas, but it's a skip for me. I'm picky about crust and I don't love the super thin flatbread style of their pizzas. But that's a personal preference. Come early, come late, enjoy all!

Walked in and was greeted by a friendly staff. They accommodated my friends and I and her cute 2 month old. I usually don't like pizza so I'm not expert but there pizza was delicious! Right amount of sauce and cheese. Had the creamy spinach with mushroom and egg... egg on a pizza, what a crazy yet delicious idea! The French toast with mixed berries and mascarpone was amazing and they gave us an extra side of berries. :) Enough with the talking. Go look at the pictures. Cause pictures are with a 1000 words.

This was another place that I have been excited to try for sometime, but left disappointed. We started out with the Gnocchi with Porcini & Smoked Pancetta. It was really good. The gnocchi was made in house. However, I thought there was a little too much panchetta and it over powered the dish. My main reason for coming here was the squid ink risotto. I love squid ink risotto, however, this one wasn't that good. Despite the black color, I did not taste any squid ink. I do have to say that I did enjoy the atmoshere of this place. it was very trendy. However it is a little small, so it is good if your party is 4 or less. It wasn't all together a horrific experience, so I would give this place another shot.

Just finished a dinner there. Went with my husband while visiting SF and waited 40 mins to get in. Our waiter, nick was great. He was stretched a bit thin. We both ordered risotto. Me = spinach goat cheese. Husband = saphron and oso bucca. His was great. Mine tasted like creamed spinach and oatmeal. Very bland. And also no salt on table Then we had an incident We spilled some wine and the hostess noticed and said she would get someone. After 5 minutes no one came. I went to her and asked for help. She said "yeah yeah i will get to u in a minute". A few minutes went by and our server came by and comped a drink and helped clean. Overall. Lots of work and hupplah for a mediocre place. The pizzas looked delicious - wish I got that!

Great place for dinner. Trendy/cool vibe- I'm surprised that they let me in. It's a tight space without reservations for small groups. Fortunately, we were shoehorned into a small table without much of a wait on a Saturday night. We tried a bunch of appetizers- the meatballs and brussel sprouts were standouts. The zucchini parm and eggplant caponatina were very good. I wasn't feeling it with the gnocci, because the pancetta and other ingredients drowned out the pasta. We had two very good pizzas- the bartender's special and the 3 mushroom pies. All were enjoyed. The gelatos were killer- a great way to end the meal.

I came here Saturday night for a friends birthday dinner. First, that they accommodated 10 people for dinner on Valentine's Day was amazing, and second they offered a great selection of food and different price offerings for a set menu. We ended up getting a four course meal for $45 per person. I find that very reasonable. Some of the highlights from the menu included: - Frito misto di pesce that came with an amazing sauce that had just enough spice. - Zucchini parmigiana with scamorza & basil. - Margherita pizza, though I know this can be plan the sauce is amazing. - Saffron Risotto with Osso Buco We also ordered a punch bowl to start for the table. We went with the Gin version. Its very sweet, so I would not order again, but it does serve 10 people well. The rest of the night we drank wine, which we had brought with us. If you are going with a large party I would request that first and second course dishes come out together. Meaning all first course options. We sat down officially at 845 and didn't get our main course until 1130, which we all felt was a little to late. However, if you start earlier it may not be a problem. Overall, the amount of food for the price and the service was great. I would recommend to anyone looking for a place to host a larger party for dinner.

Walking through the door I felt like it was the mad Men era. Packed to the max, it was reserved until my next birthday and why wouldn't it be. The service was great, the menu broken down for us new comers lost to those delicious descriptions. Our eyes targeted the squid ink pasta immediately, we're always on a quest for squid ink pasta and they hit the mark here. They also have an array of cocktails. The Lonsdale with half the sweetness was perfect.

Consistently delicious. Can be quite crowded, so avoid peak hours if you're trying to get seated quickly, but for late night dining it's one of the best options in SF. The Pizzas, Meatballs, and pretty much everything else is delicious. It's hard to find a better late night option in the Mission.

I've been wanting to try Beretta for awhile due to the many reviews on Yelp and decided to venture out late Sunday night to finally give it a try. It was 9pm on a Sunday night, we found parking right away, walked in and the waiter seated us immediately. My initial reaction and biggest gripe is I was surprised at how loud this place was. We were literally struggling to hear each other across the table. It was so loud I felt like the people next to us were on the brink of yelling at each other to have a normal conversation which just made us have to yell even louder. We ordered the dungenous crab appetizer, mushroom risotto, and a margarita pizza. Everything was pretty average in my opinion. Nothing stood out as amazing. Overall, I'm glad we were able to try this place out. I probably would look at other alternatives for good food and a more pleasurable dining experience. I'd like to save my voice for yelling at a bar, not a restaurant.

We really love the antipasta - it is uniformly excellent. Some highlights are the cauliflower, the zucchini parm, the eggplant caponatina with burrata, the dungeness arancini and the lamb chops (which were a bit overdone but still tasty). We also got the osso buco risotto which was to die for. The pizza is good but the crust isn't as delicious as some other places. The service is outstanding - we've brought our daughter with us and they have been really friendly and accommodating. Great place to have on the rotation.

Loved this place! We started with the spicy meatballs app, delicious, 2 large meatballs, perfect amount of sauce, and seasoned well. We went with the pizza with the chorizo, also delicious and perfectly sized for splitting. I really liked the crust, it was thin enough that you weren't unbearably full afterwards but not so thin that it fall apart with the toppings. Cocktails were tasty as well, had one with japanese whiskey and there were a few others I will try next time. The place is small and fills up quickly. They only take reservations for parties of 4 or more, just as an FYI. I will definitely be back!

  • Keri K.

I had the ricotta and meat balls here and they were delicious! Also had a Kentucky mule which was also great! They have speciality cocktails and the atmosphere is dark and trendy. This is a great spot to go out for dinner with friends or even a nice date spot. The only downside... I came here on a Saturday night and as expected, it was crowded. I did not mind that it was crowded since this is a popular place to go.. however, we had reservations for 8 pm and didn't get seated until 45 minutes later!!! Not sure if it was even worth making a reservation since the wait would have been about the same.

  • Edel C.

I got to say, I think this place is overrated. Yes, the food is good, but not great, but the service leaves something to desire. The bartenders are nice and friendly and the pizza is good, but our table server seemed annoyed when we ordered another round of drinks after dinner. Kind of seemed like he wanted us to turn the table instead.

Amazing food, great ambiance, and convivial staff. You MUST get the panna gelato with olive oil and sea salt. It literally made me smile after the first bite. Walnut bread with burrata, mushroom, and honey was also incredible. Overall wonderful experience and look forward to returning next time I'm in town.

Ain't nothing wrong with Beretta. Nope, not at all. Lovely setting, hoppin' inside (it will get loud and you should probably just get used to it), and plenty of nice vittles on the menu. We had a few pizzas, and nothing really grabbed me by the collar to give me a big Italian kiss on both cheeks. And while squid ink is more novelty than seasoning, I actually liked their squid ink risotto. Not loved. But liked. I did love me the beets. So why not grab some friends and come down here? Or sit at the big communal table in the middle and make some new friends? Get there early like us and you'll have no wait. Then get out and hit the streets for nearby ice creams, cocktails, or other lovely bites.

I love the drinks here! Really delicious and strong cocktails, must try at least once. The bartender really put a lot of effort into making it. Food is just okay. Tried the carbonara pizza and couple other dishes and I wouldn't say I'm impressed. The pizza had decent flavor, but nothing special. Service was nice and I like the ambience. Overall, 3 stars for food and 4.5 for the cocktails so I rounded the rating up to a 4.

Called one hour ahead to place our names on a waiting list. Showed up an hour later, told the wait was still thirty more minutes. Fifty minutes later, told the wait would still be forty more minutes. Which was enough to send my gf and I out the door. Now, this place is apparently really hot right now, so it's not a big loss that they lose my business, but fads always go out of fashion. I won't be back.

Hands down, my favorite pizza place and one of my favorite restaurants in the city. A must try is their margarita pizza with fresh burrata. It has everything you want in a pizza: crispy crust that doesn't get soggy, AMAZING sauce with the perfect balance of the tangy tomatoes and spices from the gods, and that oh so creamy fresh burrata. I can't get enough! Seriously though, I think I've been there each week this past month. That is saying a lot because they are always packed no matter what day of the week it is. One of my other favorite dishes is their walnut bread with burrata, mushroom, truffle, and honey. It really is the perfect combination of flavors and textures; crunchiness from the bread, creaminess from the burrata, the savory richness from the truffle, with a hint of sweetness from the honey. I love simple dishes that pack in a lot of flavor, and this has got to be one of my all-time favorites. Even though I'm not usually big on Italian food, I think I've liked pretty much everything that I've tried here. Their gnocchi appetizer is really flavorful as well as filling. Their squid ink risotto is really really good. Also, save room for dessert! Their panna gelato with olive oil is sooooo good. Pro-tip: if you want to skip the line, ask to be seated outside. They have tables set outside under a bunch of heaters. Much more quiet than the indoor area if you don't feel like yelling your conversation over the pizza.

I came by for brunch yesterday with a couple of friends. We were actually more interested in the dinner menu but we weren't sure if they were serving the dinner menu during brunch. The waitress assured us we could order from the dinner menu, so we were like, score! We ordered the meatballs, gnocchi, burrata bruschetta, and saffron risotto off the dinner menu and the carbonara pizza off the brunch menu. The portions were moderately sized and enough for each of us to get a good taste of each dish but didn't completely fill us up which allowed us to try a bunch of different things. Our favorites were the burrata bruschetta and saffron risotto. We polished off the meal with the panna gelato. That was amazing! Some of the best gelato I've had. We all ate way too much and had to go for a long walk afterwards, but it was worth it! The service was great and super attentive even though we were sitting out in front. I would definitely come back and try more items off the menu!

Sunday afternoon my roommate and I decided to check out Beretta for the first time. We were drawn in by the promise of yummy cheese, cocktails, and some pizza on a chilly afternoon. The cocktails were delicious! We ordered a brunch item and an antipasti which were both superb! I believe my friend had the Gnocchi with pancetta, and it was soooo good. Will definitely order that again! Although, we also ordered a margherita pizza with Burrata, which took a grand 45 minutes to arrive to our table. It was good, but definitely not worth the wait. I would try again, 2/3 stars for the very slow, and very inadequate service. The food on the other hand was definitely 4+ stars.

I really do hate being the one of the few people who didn't have a glowing experience at a restaurant that a majority of folks loved... I feel like the jerk. But, I'm willing to settle right in the comfort-zone of three stars. Clearly Beretta serves up some delicious pizzas and Italian fare, otherwise where would all these awesome reviews come from? But, the super-attentive service was where this spot excelled for me, while the food left much to be desired. To me, a great pizza is not easy. And it looks like Beretta does a great job, however--I didn't really LOVE the flavor notes in their red sauce, nor did I enjoy their pepperoni. And this is sad for me, since I love pizza. Regardless of my personal taste, you could tell they know how to make a damn good pie. Our appetizers were mostly bread-driven with their unique and fresh toppings. Again, good, but not mind-blowing. But I did appreciate their fresh and simple take on a Caesar salad. To make matters a bit worse, we have a lot of pizza joints like this where I live and I like them all better (as far as sauce goes) than the ones here. This is a rare phenomenon. Cleveland hardly ever beats what I can taste and experience in San Francisco, but it did in this particular instance. Bummer. Any-who, their superb service made the experience very enjoyable, I just didn't personally like their pizzas. But I wouldn't shy anyone away from trying Beretta! Especially not based on just my personal tastebuds.

We went to this restaurant to have dinner with a friend. It was packed! The servers weren't particularly friendly but the food was great. We ended up sitting at the bar as there was no chance of getting a table that fit into our timeframe, after tasting the food, we quickly realized why. We started with the beet and ricotta salad and the broccoli rabe bruschette. The beet salad was great, the broccoli rave bruschette was a little too peppery for my taste. The margherita burrata pizza was by far my favorite pizza I've had in a while. I'd go back JUST for that pizza. I look forward to trying other items on their menu soon!

This place was good. The set up was a little strange though. Very few tables, but one REALLY long table in the middle. Be prepared to share a table and cuddle up next to a stranger. Food here was good. A little pricey, but definitely good. Portions aren't super large, but they are hearty! There were 3 of us. We shared two risottos and a pizza. All left content. If you are out in the area, I recommend.

Great place for a nice lunch with the family or a date. PARKING: Street, we luckily found metered parking right in front but you have to pay $4 an hour...pretty steep. I'm not sure if there is non-metered parking around the surrounding streets. ATMOSPHERE: They have a large communal high table, bar area and then individuals tables. It's not that big inside so I could see it getting crowded. Hanging lights, wood, hipster feeling place. Reminded me of a mix between Bestia and Baco Mercat. WAIT: We didn't wait at all on a Saturday afternoon. You can call ahead up to an hour to put your name down on the list, which is cool. FOOD: WINTER GREENS, PERSIMMON AND POMEGRANATE SALAD - great salad, light vinaigrette dressing with slices of persimmon and pomegranate seeds. We got the large to share between two people and it was plenty. PROSCIUTTO PIZZA - comes with mozzarella and arugula sprinkled on top. Add an egg for an extra fee. It's not uber salty, which was nice because the prosciutto is salty but some parts of the pizza didn't have that much flavor. The crust is very thin and pretty crispy...I like my crust a little chewy so I was a little disappointed. FRIES - My dad got the panini sandwich, which came with fries. The fries tasted like McDonald's fries (which is a good thing) and were SO GOOD. Apparently they are cooked with rice oil, who knew! Overall, a great place with big open windows and cozy atmosphere. Food is good, you can't really go wrong with anything you order. I could see this being a good place for dinner + drinks.

Ambiance is very intense. Music is loud but good (alternative, indie). i mean the noise is pretty loud. Two persons next to each other Can hear each other, but i would not know How to chat over a table... We were at the community table but People were Talking louder and louder. Appetizers were very good: meatball (!!perfect in its tomato sauce) and the salad With burrata. Drinks were Also very créative and delicious. Service was very very quick. The waitress was kind and authentic. Problem i encounter: ink squid risotto, WAY too Much Oil (probably the pesto...) it was soaking, big stomach ache afterwards. It never happens to me usually. In conclusion , this place is more like a supper club, quick and late tasty food in a fun , young, busy & vibrant ambiance .

My bf took me here for my birthday because I had bookmarked it on Yelp to try. Totally forgot about it, but I'm glad he checked! And, doing his homework beforehand, he noted that you should call an hour in advance to put your name on the wait list, which we did as we were driving into the city. We only had to wait about 15 minutes when we got there. (Keep calling if you get a busy tone...they really are quite busy and the phone rings off the hook but better to speak with someone to put your name down). It definitely DOES get crowded! We started off with the burrata bruschetta, which I thought was an interesting concept and saw other people rave about. Walnut bread, burrata, mushroom, truffle oil, and honey. The honey was a curve ball for me and I wondered how that would go with everything. Surprisingly well. But I could tell my less foodie adventurous boyfriend did not absolutely love this. There were 3 slices, and he let me eat the third one. We also ordered the cauliflower, which was excellent! I really liked this dish even though it was such a simple side dish. Shared the spicy italian sausage, panna, and green onion pizza. I love napoli style pizza, which this was, and the green onions definitely added an interesting flavor twist (in a good way). However, I wasn't entirely blown away by the pizza like I have been at some other places. Lastly, we also ordered the funghi and truffled panna risotto. This was good, but only for so many bites before the truffle oil started overwhelming me a bit. I love mushrooms though and there were plenty to go around. I think perhaps I had had my fair share of truffle oil for the evening. The lighting is dimmer in here and definitely a nice romantic/hipster vibe going on. I loved the ambiance and I'd love coming back to try other things..but maybe just get a ton of antipasti items because those seemed to shine!

Excellent food, romantic dimly lit ambience, great service... oh and did I say awesome food? We tried the Mushroom Risotto (it is to DIE for), the Walnut bread with truffle and honey, the cauliflower dish and brocillini bruschetta. Caution - The drinks are REALLY strong!

Cruised out for a late dinner on a Monday night and this place was still busy. Service was "friendly" until we were finishing up our "chicken cake" dessert- it could have been the potent after taste of the chicken liver crostini we had or the bland gnocchi that left a weird after taste. Calamari and pizza thumbs up. the wine selection and bottle the waitress recommended was good. this place has potential but was not entirely impressed with my first visit.

I am in love with the Northern Italian pizza at this industrial modern Mission restaurant. Their small plates are fabulous, but their pizza is my favorite of any thin-crust Neopolitan style place in the city. And, their wine list is amazing. If you like whites, try their Falanghina from Spain. Delectable.

First time I came here was with a date. Not a great first date place considering the music and overall noise level is pretty loud. But this time around, friends and I had our monthly dinner here and decided to ball out. I had the carpaccio, winter gems with permissions salad, and squid ink risotto. Friends had carpaccio, kale salad, spinach and goat cheese risotto, and burrata pizza. All were super delicious. However, walking home my stomach was NOT happy. My other friend said her stomach was feeling a little woozy too.. the only thing we both had that the 3rd person didn't have was the kale salad (caesar). So who knows! And it's not food poisoning (I hope)... but I sure did visit the bathroom when I got home. I'll still come back many times :)

4 stars if you don't have to wait. The dungeoness crab arancini balls were pretty good and the risotto was above average. Pizza with arugula and prosciutto was pretty standard, but again nothing I'd ever wait more than 20 minutes for. This place is in the Mission and super hipstery to say the least. Again, I wouldn't wait for a table for this place, but then again there's very few places that I'd have the patience for that type of ridiculouslessness, especially in SF.

Loved the food here so much! Ordered the Burrata Bruschetta, Walnut Bread, Mushroom Truffle Honey .... Arugula fennel Parmesan salad .... & veggie pizza. The burrata is a MUST TRY!

3.5 stars. Subtracted 1.5 stars for the service and crowd. Beretta is a little over-rated. I would recommend coming on a week night and to avoid Friday-Saturday nights. The food and drinks are amazing, but the 2 hour wait, pretentious clientele and snotty wait staff are a little hard to swallow. Would recommend: 1. gnocchi 2. squid ink risotto 3. buratta 4. all of the pizzas are good 5. cocktails and lots of them

Carbo-loading before a race is ALWAYS a good idea - pizza, bread, pasta, come at me. PARKING: Street. We took a Lyft here, but there was a bit of street parking if you're willing to brave SF's parallel spots. FOOD: gnocchi with porcini & smoked pancetta: This is a winner! The gnocchi were like fluffy pasta clouds covered in pancetta juice. DELICIOUS. I'm a big fan of the porcini on the side as it adds a veggie (sort of) to this otherwise indulgent dish. herb onion bread with extra virgin olive oil: Boyfriend wanted more carbs, so he ordered the onion bread. Great flavor with a textured crust. The olive oil was high quality. fritto misto di pesce: The seafood (shrimp, octopus, squid) tasted fresh, but there's only so much you can do with tempura seafood. I would order this for a table to share with the portion side, but this is definitely too much for one person. The green beans are, again, a nice veggie pairing to cut the heaviness. margherita: The boyfriend really enjoyed his pizza, but then again, he never met a pizza he didn't like. He also ordered the most basic pizza on the menu! I would opt for the burrata add on. SERVICE: Service was on point, and our waiter was quick to deliver new bottles of water. No alcohol for us - we all ran the half the next day. TIP: -No reservations unless you have a party of 6+. Call ahead to put your name on the list. -They'll seat you at a community table if they have to. It's roomy enough not to overhear a fellow guest's conversation.

Came on a weeknight for a dinner and it was amazing. There was a 20 minute wait roughly but so worth it. The food was all delicious, the cocktails were great as well and it just felt like a really nice out. Highly recommended

Really fantastic food, great service, and just a wonderful dining experience overall. They don't make reservations for parties with less than 6 people so we called and hour ahead and got on the the list for dinner at 7:30. We were seated by 7:45. Their truffle risotto was amazing, their pizzas are good, but the star for me was the caesar salad. Most caesars taste like dressing from a bottle, but I am quite sure theirs in home made. It's the light oil based dressing vs. the creamy kind. Oh, and don't forget the meat balls! Everyone at the table said they were the best meatballs they had ever had.

  • Kunal T.

Great place but be warned they do not take reservations. I would suggest making a quick phone call in when you are 20-30 mins away and put yourself on the waiting list. The service was very personable and they made some great recommendations for food choices. For pizzas I would suggest the spicy italian sausage and if you're vegetarian I would suggest the funghi misti. Great ambiance for any occassion and I felt like my day was complete after having this meal.

One of my favorite restaurants in the city. Whenever I have friends visiting we always make it out to Beretta and they are never disappointed. Yes, the wait can be long, but I never regret waiting. While you wait to be seated you can get drinks at the bar (Rattlesnake is delicious!). I tend to order the same things over and over again because they are soooo good. For starters, I order the walnut bread with burrata and the gnocci with pancetta. Then I go for the Bartender Special Pizza. It's not on the menu and its the best pizza. Burrata, spicy italian sausage, other amazing things, what more can you ask for? On other occasions I have tried their saffron and osso buco risotto and that almost made me never order the pizza again. Meatballs are also delicious. The only app I wouldn't get again is the chicken liver crostini. It doesn't come as a pate but actual liver pieces which wasn't to my liking. Enjoy!

Maybe the worst service, ever. I had been in on the previous Saturday and had a great round of drinks at the bar. I wanted to come back for dinner, so I popped in with a friend on the follwing Friday night. We arrived and were sat very quickly, only to wait. And then wait some more. And then wait for a second round of drinks. And then wait for our check, after we had to ask for it, THREE TIMES! As a former server, I also watched him to see if he was busy, and he casually walked around the small dining room many times in between our requests for the check. I get it if it was his last table and he didn't want another turn before closing, but come on, man! Service gets zero stars; food gets 3, and overall, they get 2.

Beretta you are a perfect place for me. From your fantastic cocktails to your great apps (my fave is the zucchini parmigiana - baked perfectly). The gnocchi I didn't like much I won't order that again, but your pizza pies are marvelous! This is a great spot for people watching, to bringing your date to hanging at the bar or the conmunal table with friends or all by yourself.

The bartender was very friendly. I ordered the improved whiskey cocktail. It was pretty strong. Once we got settled down at the table, the service was a bit slow but they are still friendly. I really like the spinach and goat cheese risotto. We also order a s8lad and the Wednesday's special pork sh0ulder chop. They are just ok, nothing special. Parking is a challenge. I'll definitely come back for the cocktail and the risotto.

2 stee-rong cocktails, 2 apps, and one pizza under $60..... o fasho :) gnocchi and pork cheeks- tasty- a little greasy tho i might go for something else if ur only getting 1 or 2 apps, might be too simple for the cals/grease for me baked zucchini and marinara- perfect-but-simple and daaank spicy salami pizza- again, not would i would have picked but ended up loving it-- would definitely get it again went a little later on a friday and were seated within 5 minutes, great service and bartenders

Pizza was good, service was acceptable. We had a group of 8 with reservations on a Monday night but had to sit at a table designed for 6 with a large pillar beside the table (basement seating area), so that was a fun jenga/twister game trying to pass pizza around. It's basically a posh pizza place where mysterious entitlement and elitism may appear to flow like wine...but that's to be expected sometimes. If that's your steez, then giddy up.

Absolutely packed Weds @ 9? Wow, must be good? Yup, sure was! We got a spot at the bar after only five min wait. Cocktails were good and strong. They had four kinds of vodka, none of which I had heard of, but they did the job just fine. Got meatballs (5/5) and cauliflower (4/5) for apps and spit a prosciutto & arugula pizza (4/5) with plenty leftover. Pizzas seem to be their thing...thin crust and very similar to Delfina.

Sunday brunch. My grapefruit cocktail sported a basil leaf miniature boat on the surface. How can eggs be persuaded to grace in a broccolini, fontina and pancetta omelet with ineffable fluffy yummy goodness? Did something for the first time ever, ordered a second entree because the French toast with mascarpone and berries was not something that simply could not be deferred to a later date.

This place is great-- first of all, you can call ahead & put your name on the list-- even on a Friday night! What!?! I know!!!! They also have delicious mixed drinks & the pizza's are tasty too. They completely screwed up my order but ended up comping us the entire meal & sending me home with dessert and a smile (it was my birthday). You've gotta love when places stick by their customer service guns, a rare thing, especially in SF. I would definitely go back.

Have been here before, so this is a review of just my second first (first one was 4/5 stars). I called and put my Name of the waitlist and showed up 45 min later. The hostess said she already sat someone with my name and party size so she would put me back on the list....weird Once we sat, the waitress wasn't attentive. It was busy in there but I just wasn't impressed Walnut bread with barrata was to die for. Mushroom truffle honey on top added the perfect amount of sweetness. Portion size was perfect for 2 Was not that impressed with the pizza. We got broccoli rabe and pancetta. To me, the broccoli rabe didn't seem fresh. Could have even been frozen? I'm sure it wasn't put the taste wasn't great. Everything else on the pizza was ok. Had just gone to Delfina so maybe I was comparing Overall, 2nd visit was so so

this may be my new favorite place! +great drinks +broccoli rabe pizza was delish +meatballs were spot on! if only they could turn it into a pasta dish -fried asparagus was ok -long wait

I meet some old friends in the city so we could all catch up and grab a bit to eat. We ended up going to Beretta. The restaurant is small but they do have outdoor seating. Word to the wise, make sure your heater is on. We sat outside and halfway through our meal it got cold and we didn't realize that our waiter hadn't turned on our heat lamp. We ordered the spicy marinara and asparagus pizza. The spicy pizza tasted great but the asparagus was a little to heavy. We also ordered the gnocchi and roasted beets. Overall the food was good but the waitstaff was on the slow side. Also non-alcoholic drink selection here is limited and after we had left we realized our waiter had forgotten to give us our doggie bag.

They don't take reservations if you are less than 6 people. It might busy. I was lucky yesterday night though as we found table easily. The food was good. I recommend their Pizzas. One great thing is that they open late. Really good thing! However there is wayyyyyy to much noise. There is a big table in the middle of the restaurant for large parties. Try to be seated in the back otherwise you have to yell to talk to your friend. There is also not enough room between tables. Both make it definitely not a date spot. It's a good place for a late dinner with your buddies.

one of my favorites! the drink makers are very good at what they do pizzas are very tasty and very well priced so is the rest of the menu servers are cool. there when you need them, and give you space when you don't. place itself is attractive minimal decoration without looking clinical with good details throughout

Other SF restaurant should take a hint from Beretta and stay open late! I stumbled in here after a crazy night needing some sustenance. I believe my party ordered almost one of everything on the menu and each dish was spectacular. The drink menu is a fantastic! The ambiance was chill, warm and inviting...small, intimate and friendly. I could go on and on raving about Beretta's incredible food, service and lovely atmosphere but I think the countless 4 and 5 star reviews attest to that!

  • Claire V.

This is a nice place, but I feel like it is overrated. It is cosy but overcrowded, which makes it REALLY noisy, hard to have a casual conversation! My risotto (peas and pancetta) was Meh-, too fatish/greasy for me with too much cream (I am a big fan of risotto, knowing the real ones from Italy maybe makes me a harsh judge !). It is still a nice place in this district, and changes from the plethora of Mexican restaurants.

  • Chris L.

My favorite pizza place in the Mission. The burrata pizza is excellent every time (mmm burrata... so creamy it's like pure liquid deliciousness!). The meatballs in spicy tomato sauce appetizer is wonderful too. The place is usually packed and it can be hard to get a table without a reservation. But don't forget that they also do take-out!

  • Susan C.

It was just okay. I won't be hankering to go back anytime soon. Had been here a few times and had awesome meals but something has changed. We ordered the following: -roasted beets with slices of ricotta -eggplant with burrata -meatballs in spicy sauce -beef carpaccio -crab arancini -spinach salad -squid ink risotto with calamari -2 pizzas Nothing really stood out. I remember the pizzas being much much better. These were just okay. I liked the beets, meatballs, eggplant & burrata and risotto. I just won't be going back for any of these dishes. The cocktails were great (Lonsdale!). Desserts were great too -- panna gelato with olive oil and chocolate bread pudding with ice cream. Even on a weeknight, it was crowded at 6:30. Glad we called it in an hour in advance otherwise we would have been waiting outside for a long time.

We had a lovely time at Beretta. Nice atmosphere, great service, drink menu has fun options, decent wine selection. I ordered what turned out to be one of the best pizzas I've had in SF (zucchini with provolone, goat cheese, pancetta). Someone in our party ordered the sweet potato fry appetizer. It came with some of the tastiest cheese sauce I've ever had... if you are a cheese person you NEED to order it. Salads were fresh with the right amount of dressing. My only complaint is that they charged for the birthday dessert (tiramisu), which we thought was on the house. But, overall, it was a great dinner.

    (4)
  • Jaina S.

Cauliflower antipasti and the arugula fennel salad were the highlights, along with the cocktails (some of the best I've had in the city). The pizza was ...good ... but it's got that semi-flaccid thing going on in the center -- thin crust needs a crisp firmness throughout. but the spicy coppa we asked for them to add to the mushroom pizza was divine.

    (4)
  • Brian H.

I love that you can call in an hour ahead to get on the list. It's definitely has a hybrid of casual and fine dining. It can be very crowded so don't expect that luxurious feel of an open room. While you wait, grab some cocktails. They nail all the classics and have some good variations as well. Pizza with burrata is amazing. Timing of the food coming out can be improved. All our appetizers and other entrees came out way before the pizza, by the time that finally came out we were pretty full.

    (4)
  • Kapeli M.

Basic synopsis: solid pizzas with great meatballs. The cocktails are good if that is your thing...but for me, I come here for the Margarita pizza with burrata, the sausage pizza, and the meatballs. All exceptional. Eat the pizza while hot, the crust is not as tasty as it grows cold.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
